Power of Broader Thinking

Opening up to broader thinking sounds easy and something you want to do, but in reality, it takes work.

Just this past week, I spent a week in two events.  Both were easily the most impactful two events I have been part of in the past five years.  Now, I have opportunity to be in some pretty fun and powerful places, but this past week takes the prize for sure.

Why?

Because it was all about broadening your thinking.  The first part of the week was in an event that teaches you how to get to the core buying triggers for your respective audience.  This proven method is creating multiple-over-multiple increases for businesses in virtually every marketplace.  No Jedi mind tricks here.  The science and the process is off the chart, wicked smart, and now part of my arsenal.

Then, the second part of the week was with one of my Mastermind groups.  In fact, after this past event, I am pretty sure it is going to be my ONLY Mastermind group for a while.  This room is filled with other seven, eight, and nine figure business owners who are part of a completely invested team.  We all are doing everything we can to help one another scale to the next level.

I know a lot of entrepreneurs who say, “I don’t do masterminds.  I don’t have to pay to have friends.”   But I say that putting yourself in a room full of people who are way smarter than you is the smartest thing you can do on a regular basis.

This particular week was off the hook.  We covered a topic that has Changed. My. Life.   You will all be hearing more about this soon—trust me!

But more important to the content, is the impact to my thinking.  When I am part of Elite, my thinking is expanded, challenged, and turned just about every way you can.  I call being in these events, Thinking about my Thinking. (to quote a very good friend, Jerry Lujan)

When I actively and strategically engage in thinking about my thinking, my business and my life take off.

So my question and challenge to you is this:  What are you doing to expand and challenge your thinking?  What are you doing that is moving you out of your comfort zone and into something bigger and greater than you are now?

If you are not sure, or you cannot pick something right now, it is entirely possible that you are stuck and not going where you want to do.  I challenge you to put yourself out there and see what happens.  I predict you will be blown away by what you learn, and blessed by getting out of your routine.

Come on!  Take a step!

Clarity, Renewal, and Vision 365

I have taken a fair bit of time away from my coaching to just renew my head and get clarity about where I want it to go.  if you have followed me for any length of time, you will remember that I am also in leadership at an agency that does large scale, international fundraising for humanitarian work.

So, I have focused on the agency and my coaching clients, but been mulling over how best to serve you going forward.

In the coming days, there are several new things I am going to introduce for the purpose of serving you better.  I know that owning/starting a business is a gigantic task while also remaining committed to family, health, and frankly finding time to get your head back to center.

It.  Is.  Tough.

I know.  I have been there several times—and in fact, have been there over this last little stretch.  So as a way to share what I can of my journey. I thought it might be helpful to you to share the process I have been using.  I call it my Vision 365.

  1. First I start with a single piece of paper and draw a straight line directly down the middle of the page.
  2. Then, on the left side, I write out in detail all the things I would like to see happen in my business (my coaching) this year.
  3. Next, on the right side, I write out in detail all the things I would like to see happen in my personal life this year.  Everything I want…
  4. Finally, I turn the page over, date it 365 days from today (February 19, 2017), and I write a journal entry, IN PAST TENSE, that talks about all the things that have happened this year and all that I have gotten done.  I include everything on the lists from the front of the page.  (Yes, it feels a little bit weird at first.)  I even include thoughts about how it made me feel and what in my life has changed as a result of completing it all.

Now why does this work?  It is simple, Vision365 plants seeds in your subconscious mind that help you see and act upon opportunities as they come to you.  Things you would normally miss, but now your brain sort of wakes up and says, “Hey! This is a step in our achievement!”

You will be very surprised by how things come toward you rather than you having to chase them.

Give it a shot today, and then snap a pic and shoot it to me at email@kevinbreeding dot com   I would love to watch as you achieve your dreams this year!

Work Life Balance Is a Myth

Work Life Balance is like the snow leopard of the world of entrepreneurship.  In fact, I think Work Life Balance is a myth.

WHY?  Because growing a business, investing in family in relationships, continuing to learn, staying healthy, pursuing spirituality, find time for hobbies, and discovering your true life’s purpose are all quite difficult and take time.

Honestly, I think Work Life Balance is a myth, and here is why.   Starting or building a business like yours takes time, effort, sweat, and risk.  All of those things can drain your creativity and your drive if not careful.  But time and effort are what is required to get the job done.

So what are you supposed to do about finding time for the other things are our list?  Simple.  Take baby steps – but keep your feet moving.

More times than I can count, I have fallen into the trap of “I’ll get there.”  This is a lie we tell ourselves that we will just set aside other things for a day or two while we get our business up and going.  5 years later we remember to look and realize we have lost a ton of things while we were building our dream.

I don’t know about you, but I do not want do all this work and then have terrible health or no one there to share it with.

So, I make it a priority to set appointments with myself to work on the areas of my life that help me be a complete person.  For me they are my: business, relationships, health, education, spirituality, interests, and my ultimate life’s purpose.

Now, like you, I do not have time to devote to the each of those the way I want to – but I stay moving forward by setting aside little moments to invest in each – regardless of how little time I may have.  Here are the ways I am taking little steps this week:

I am back journaling every morning while I have a cup of coffee – helps w business focus and ideas, relationships since I often write about my smokin’ hot wife, Susie, and my life’s purpose because I write about the things I see myself going.
I set up a bike in my living room (odd, I know) so that I can come right in early in the morning and ride while watching the news, weather, whatever.  I even started a podcast yesterday that I had not found time for before.  So this one thing supports my health, and my business, and my overall life’s purpose.
I enrolled in an online course that I can do a little bit of everyday before I leave the office.  I have set an appointment like I would for a meeting with a client.  It is not moveable and not something I take lightly.  If I am going to get to my goal (to be shared later) I have to take control.
So what about you?  How do you handle the balance of life’s demands?  I would love to hear about it.

Pursuit of Continuous Improvement

Hey – I was wondering what you do to spur continuous improvement?  I know that like most people, you probably prefer constant change or steady consistency.  Do you know which?

One way to tell is by looking at what you do to get continually better day after day.  Now I am one of those freaks that likes change.  Sameness and consistency day in and day out scares me to death and makes me feel trapped.

What about you?

Yesterday I was on a call with one of my personal coach clients and we were talking about their aversion of change.  Fear of the unknown and the risk of potential failure was so strong that they ended up being paralyzed mentally and could not get their project to where they wanted it to be – even though they were telling themselves they were working hard toward their goal of a certain monthly revenue by the end of spring 2016.

Sound familiar?  Getting mentally paralyzed by fear or by over thinking the situation is pretty common, so you are not alone.  The problem is that when you get stuck, you end up completely taking away any real improvement.

That is when most people give up on their dream – just like the on the call yesterday.  So how to you get yourself back on track toward your goal?

You remember your goal, right?  Starting your own business – losing 20 pounds – learning a new skill – committing to spending 20 minutes a day in personal reflection – re-engaging with your spouse or partner – Remember?

The trick to getting back on track is baby steps  – progress – one step today, one step tomorrow.

So let me ask you – friend to friend – what have you been dreaming about and working on but you just cannot seem to get momentum?

I would love to help you breakthrough.  If you would like, you can email me HERE, or you can set up a FREE, no obligation breakthrough strategy call.  I only have about 10 slots available – but you can set one up HERE.

Predictability – It’s a funny thing

Predictability is a funny thing.  There are times that we all may struggle with uncertainty, but the truth is, so many things in life are completely predictable.  Let me give you an example –

Take out a piece a paper and answer these questions – seriously, do this with me –

  1.  Think of a number between 1 and 10
  2. Multiply that number by 9
  3. If the number is a 2-digit number, add the digits together
  4. Now, subtract 5
  5. Determine which letter in the alphabet corresponds to your number (1=a, 2=b, 3=c)
  6. Think of a country that starts with that letter
  7. Remember the last letter of the name of that country
  8. Think of the name of an animal that starts with that letter
  9. Remember the last letter in the name of that animal
  10. Think of the name of a fruit that starts with that letter

So, I am betting the things you are thinking of right now is:  Denmark, Kangaroo, and Orange

Am I Psychic?  No.  The truth is that predictability is actually fairly common.  People, behaviors, decisions, and actions are more common than they are unique.

Just this week, I had a situation that was not only completely predictable, I actually predicted it would happen over three years ago – detail by detail, action by action.  So what do we do about it?

All of this is a great reminder of a simple principle – Be you, do what you know to be right, and then do what is best.

People around you are going to like you or not, buy from you or not, be part of your tribe or not.  The only thing you can truly control is your path, your vision, your success, your happiness, and your ultimate destination.

I have heard it said this way before – “If you think you can, OR if you think you can’t – You’re Right!”

In all of my journey, I have found that understanding people’s predictability, and then getting my mindset right, is KEY to making the progress I want to make.

So let me ask you this – Are you making the progress you want to make?  If not, I would love to help you with a FREE 20-minute breakthrough conversation.  Let’s talk about your success!

When Failure Happens

– If you only read one post from me, please read this one.

What do you do when failure occurs as the result of your actions or in spite of them?

That is a tough question, but an important one to think about.  Candidly, the more quickly you can respond, more times than not, the less severe the fall out – whether in business, relationships, health, spirituality, pretty much whatever.

Now that may sound a bit odd to you, but I know it to be true.

As a serial entrepreneur and also an interminable introvert, I am constantly at war to build something AND to doubt why I should build something.  Sounds crazy, right?

With full transparency, I can tell you that if left to my natural thoughts, I would stop everything, find reasons nothing will work, and down right frighten myself into a dark corner and just sit there with my thoughts.

BUT I REFUSE TO BE THAT WAY!

I choose to be forward, positive, and upward – even on days (today being one of them) that I would like to run back into the security blanket of doubt.  Life is easy there because the room is wallpapered with excuses.

No, because I want a better life for myself, for my wife, four girls, the profession that I love, I willfully choose to walk in a posture of progress, strength, and upward vision.

So what do you do when everything seems to be crashing in?

For me, I go back the most simple, basic, foundation principles of who I am as a man, a husband, a father, a son, and a professional.  I:

  • Recognize that everything I have is a blessing
  • Nothing is to be taken for granted
  • The world has given me far more than I have deserved or contributed
  • My girls are the most priceless gems in existence
  • I am a blessed and lucky man to understand the concept of life partner
  • There is nothing in this world or beyond that can overcome God’s protection
  • Life is good, even on troubling days, life is good.
  • Most of my challenges are the windfalls of my own mistakes, therefore they are not trials, they are lessons to be re-invested.

No I do not write those things in a vacuum.  Nor do I smile with some pollyanna gloss over my eyes.  There are tough days ahead.  But I am alive – I have skills – I have been rescued before – and I will be again.

Think about that – and choose wisely today!

Its All About the Money…Funny Thing

Secretly, I think you and I are alike in a lot of ways.  We want what we want, but we know that money alone is not it. And that is the funny thing about growing your career, or starting a new business, or getting back to healthier habits – to get where you want to be, it takes real effort and a clear view of your true motivation.

There are a lot of folks out there who will tell you, “Its all about the money.”  I agree with one BIG exception.

It is all about your perspective of money – not the actual money itself.

For me, the BIG “a ha” comes when I quit thinking about my career and how much I am billing.  When I let loose of all that and just serve my clients, I produce better products, get better results, and have longer-term relationships.  It is actually the very opposite when I focus on the money.

In my private coach work, I bill based upon where my client (hate that word) is.  If they are just starting out, it is a pretty simple fee.  Then, as your business and life take off, then rates grow with – as does the complexity of what we work on.

So what about you?

What are you focused on right now?  Are you growing the way you want to in multiple areas of your life?

If you are like I was, then probably not.  I used to get very focused on one area and would let the others just sit idle – usually until something catches fire.  (not the best operating model)  The sad thing is that you end up just running from one mini-crisis to another.

That is a sure fire way to never get to where you want to go.

Right now, I am building two new businesses.  One for the agency I am part of, and one personally.  Although that is not a great model either, it is a good reminder that every day progress is key – even if they are little bitty steps some days.  So to get where I want to be, I set appointments with myself to work on these projects just as if they are regular projects that I would bill for.  Without doing that, things would never get done.

If that sounds familiar and you cannot quite seem to get everything to where you want it to be, I would love to help you out.

Go to www.kevinbreeding.com/tlm-welcome and download the Total Life Matrix eval tool – it is completely free.  Follow the directions to rate where you are with everything  in your life.  And when you send it back, I will return custom feedback and an opportunity for a free 20 minute strategy call to get you jump started and back on track.  No obligation – just a good investment of my time in to your journey.

When I give and don’t worry about the money, my business grows and grows and grows.   You see?  It IS all about (perspective of) the money.

Getting Real. Getting Clarity.

Getting Real.  Getting Clarity.

Have ever found yourself in a place where you had a big goal or a dream that you really wanted to see happen, but kept finding yourself getting caught or trapped so that it didn’t (or hasn’t yet) come to pass?

Have you had a great idea that was the perfect solution for someone or a product that was a “slam dunk to sell,” that you could not get off center and make it a reality?

Sound familiar?

It sure does for me.  I spent years making excuses, blaming not having enough time or enough money, or telling myself that someone has already done it so why do I need to?   WRONG ANSWER!

Honestly, if you have a great idea or solution, there is a reason.  The world needs that solution or needs to hear your voice and your story.  I believe that great ideas and inspirational stories actually exist for the reason of them being shared.

If you are like me, you have had times where self-doubt, or fear, or lack of clarity pretty much paralyzed you from getting done what you really wanted to get done.  We all face mental demons of one flavor or another.  That was certainly the case when I first started out taking on coaching clients.

I would have this discussion in my head that would go something like:

Me: “I really think I would like to help people with life and business by becoming a life and business coach.”

Inside me: “That is the silliest thing I have ever heard.  Why would you do that?”

Me: “But I need to make good use of my experience – the good, the bad, the high, the low…”

Inside me: “But what if you fail and make a fool of yourself?”

Me:  (insert sounds of crickets chirping here_ _ _ _ paired with weeks and months of excuses that result in no forward action.)

Sound familiar?  Ever have a “friend” that has struggled with getting off of center and making things happen?

Don’t Worry.  It Happens to All of Us.  Really.

I have had the good fortune (providence) to be in friendships that are wildly successful – multi-millionaires and even a few billionaires.  And every time I would spend time with someone so successful, I would come away asking myself. “Hey! What do they have that I don’t have?”

Simple.  One thing.   Clarity.

Recently, I heard one uber-successful friend say it this way:

“It wasn’t until I realized and convinced myself that people would be worse off if I did not finish my product.  I had to get it out there so it could really helped people.”  He actually went on to say that he is so convinced that his system works so well that he would be doing a disservice by keeping it to himself.

We All Need That Level of Clarity.

Without exception, the most successful people I know, as well as what has made me go from being frustrated to being on point and delivering a great product is…CLARITY.

So, how do you get it?

First, focus on what you say out loud and to yourself as to why it is not happening.

Second, take 14 days and track your time by 15-minute increments to see where you are losing time that could be applied.  You may be really surprised.

Third, take a deep look at what happens if your vision becomes wildly successful.  Then, what happens if it is a miserable bust?

Finally, if you are really serious about getting it done, is there a way to outsource part or all of the work?  When we pay for work to be done, we clearly pay more attention to it because of hard costs, not soft costs. (This works particularly well for me…)

So there you go.  Clarity is the missing ingredient – now lets go create some!
